Copper tent dress
c. 1975
Bias cut does not automatically equal fit! This garment is designed to hang loosely away from the body, with no seams or darts for shaping. The sleeves are cut with a high cap but a low scoopy armscye, a formula for a sleeve that does not allow much movement. Generally this garment does not fit the mannequin well, as it does not sit naturally in the neck and shoulder area. It may fit a differently proportioned body perfectly, but on this form it is unbalanced, as it tends to shift to the front. It is made from a great fabric, but -- in contrast to the rest of the exhibit -- not well patterned or fitted.
