The exuberant shape of this gown is further emphasized by its bright red color. Nothing about this dress is reserved! The lantern sleeves supported by a stiff buckram insert extend the shoulder line, almost doubling the width of the body; they are balanced by the flared skirt that descends from a shaped seam at the hip. The flared skirt begins flat on the body at the hip seam, and then flares quickly to a very full hem. The front skirt panel has even more fullness, introduced in a series of layered box pleats. The gathers at the neckline are generated in a sunburst shape that lie softly over the bust but fade to nothing below the bust.
